DIY natural cleaner

One big area of plastic waste in the home is cleaning products. Not to mention all of the unnecessary chemicals they contain. But there is an easy solution - vinegar!

Vinegar is a great acidic cleaner that can be infused with other natural ingredients like herbs and citrus peel to create a fragrant cleaning spray. It can be used on most surfaces except for timber and natural porous surfaces like marble and stone.

To make, simply fill an empty jar with your herbs or citrus of choice (see below for some ideas) and fill with white vinegar. Give the jar a shake and store in a dark place to let infuse for 2 weeks, shaking it now and then.

Once ready, pour into a spray bottle with a ratio of half water to half vinegar and you’re ready to clean! For hard to clean surfaces, sprinkle bi-carb soda on the area first and then spray with the vinegar/water solution.

And here is the fun part - choosing what scent you are going to create. You can get creative with your combinations and below are some of our favourites.

  • Lemon

  • Orange and rosemary

  • Lemon and mint

  • Lavendar

  • Eucalyptus and tea tree oil

  • Sage

Using citrus like lemon also adds to the cleaning power with lemon bring a great cleaning agent.

So instead of picking up multipurpose cleaner, toilet cleaner, window cleaner and any other general cleaner, give this recipe a go. You will free your house from chemicals and reduce your plastic waste. Happy cleaning.
